Artist Clyde Owes

Clyde Owes

The sea! “No other subject offers the artist the beauty, drama and breathtaking power.

With that statement, Clyde Owes directed his artistic efforts toward capturing the moods, colors, and unending movements of the sea. His art illustrates his life-long affinity for the California coast.

After serving four years in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific, he attended the Hollywood Art Center to pursue his art education. After moving to California’s Central Coast, he became an active member in the art community. His art is displayed in many art galleries and art shows across the Californian coast.

Clyde’s work reflects an extraordinary visual insight beyond that of most seascape artists. For more than thirty years, he used his paintbrush — as well as his keen eye for colors — to capture the turbulence and serenity of the sea.

Clyde won awards at the prestigious National Arts for the Parks Exhibition in 1995, 2001, and 2004. Out of 2,400 artists from across America, he not only finished in the final 100, but in 1995 he received the coveted Judges’ Award. He was a member of the International Society of Marine Painters and Oil Painters of America.

Clyde passed away 2004 and is survived by his daughter, Melody, who keeps his legacy alive for all to enjoy. As Clyde would say, “The final reward is knowing my efforts have produced a painting that someone can stand back and say, ‘Yes! That is the sea. That’s how it looks and feels.”
